SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Seleukos I Nikator, 312-281 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30 mm, 17.15 g, 3 h), Karrhai, circa 310-290. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. BAΣIΛΕΩΣ - ΣΕΛEYKOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle with closed wings in his right; to left, wreath above monogram; below throne, ΛY. SC 42.5. An interesting minor detail about this coin is the Λ below the throne of Zeus, which was clearly added later to the die to turn the Y into a ΛY. For another example, see above, lot 1244
